Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
Another good 70s rock song ^. I prefer the original. This is Thin Lizzy covered by Skyclad, an English band that pioneered folk metal. I saw them live once with the woman, Fritha Jenkins, on the electric violin. They came into the bar afterwards.

Three versions of "One Way Ticket", in 1959, 1979 and 2007:

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
BRAVO! That is an excellent cover of Total Eclipse Of The Heart :
I like it better than the original, very powerful and beautiful voices.
I was listening to some of Exit Eden's other cover songs. Most of the songs were covers of more recent music, that is hard for me to appreciate like Lady Gaga/Rhianna.
Their version of Madonna's Frozen is very good although, I prefer the original.

Wings of Pegasus does some very good covers, I decided on this song because, I like the original version too!

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
Running up the Hill, original version by Kate Bush:
Version by Placebo:
I actually like this version best, it seems to have so much unresolved tension and angst. I think, at least, it's very unique.
This version is more of a fan favorite:
I don't like it as much, because it sounds more like the original. The video is awful.

Madonna suits the gothic look (tattoos excepted). I prefer her version of that song too.Sary wrote:I was listening to some of Exit Eden's other cover songs. Most of the songs were covers of more recent music, that is hard for me to appreciate like Lady Gaga/Rhianna.

I'll catch up with the other songs posted above in the next few days.

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
I knew about the Damn Yankees and I like that song apart from the chorus which is too commercial for my taste. I think I prefer the original.
I see what Osric Pearl means about the slightly darker take of the Kate Bush song by Placebo. The last version is probably the lesser of the three and, yeah, the best that can be said about the video is that it's experimental This is not a cover version as such, but a parody of Kate Bush's general style:

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
My favorite of the three songs that OP posted is probably Kate Bush's original version of Running Up That Hill. I like the video and dancing which I think, nicely complement the music.
The second, darker cover is melancholy but also very relaxing...almost hypnotic.
I don't mind the graphics on the third version, but yeah it comes in third for me too.
Bring Me to Life, by Evanescence, has a powerful element of heavy metal to it. The official video is a little distracting, so I decided not to post it. Sometimes songs are best when simply listened to and the visual is left to the imagination.
I think the song is well suited in the cover, as a Gregorian chant. I love the Catholic sound and feeling it gives, again relaxing and hypnotic.

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
I remember that Evanaescence song. I like it, although I think the male vocal slightly interferes with the mood. The chant version is good too. It reminded me of some similar covers of Black Sabbath songs by an Estonian group called Rondellus.
Anthrax's version from 1988 with alternative English lyrics. Keep watching the man wearing the comedy head - who could it be?
"Antisocial" is a song by the French hard rock band Trust, from their album Répression. The song was written by Bernie Bonvoisin and Norbert Krief. Unusually for a hard rock track, it was played on mainstream radio stations RTL and France Inter, helping the album sell over 800,000 copies in 1980. Evoking a dehumanised, individualistic and brutal society, the lyrics captured the alienation of a generation disillusioned by the excesses of its elders and the 1973 oil crisis. [Wikipedia]

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
I was thinking that the William Tell Overture would be good for a metal cover and then thought to look on YouTube . . .
