It's important we put each country's physical size into perspective.

Sweden and the Nordic nation together aren't as large a landmass as they appear on a map. India not so small.

^ Its funny, how I don't fully appreciate the forest and trees that cover my state, until I am away from home.
When I return from a vacation in a different part of the world,  I am always amazed at how green and lush the landscape is here.
This time of year is especially beautiful in New England. We are very fortunate to have these vast forests and the wildlife that it supports.
I know that trees need a lot of water to grow but they also release moisture into the air. I wonder how much trees contribute to droughts and if forests will continue to thrive with rising temperatures...
Hopefully global warming and the increasing CO2 levels will help to sustain all forms of plant life.
That would be a nice bonus.

This map shows just deciduous and mixed forest, leaving out pure conifer forest (which is a bit boring):

Physical Map of Europe Empty Re: Physical Map of Europe

Post Sary Wed 12 Apr - 11:35

This past week the trees around here have really started to bloom and the pollen count has been very high. Early spring is such a lovely time of the year, but seasonal allergies can make it one of the most miserable. I must have sneezed 50 times yesterday!
I heard on the news that climate change is responsible for the longer and more intense pollen season. It does seem that it is starting a little earlier this year.

Looking at your map there are still a lot of forests in Europe, not even counting conifers.
Funny how they are not included.
If I had to pick, pine trees are probably my favorite. I imagine that Eastern Europe and Russia have the most conifer forests.

This map shows just the conifer forests:

Isn't it surprising that there are many conifer trees in southern Europe?

Yeah it is surprising that there are so many conifers in southern Europe. I’ve always associated them with the north. They seem to be able to thrive in extreme weather and don’t do as well in a temperate climate.
Sweden looks like it is covered in conifer forests, it must be a beautiful country filled with natural beauty.
