Re: Now listening to . . .
I never heard of Van der Graaf Generator, is there a certain song in particular that you like?
Weird name for a band.
I’m not really familiar with Helloween either, their music does sound crisp, upbeat and happy very 1980’s. Great video too!

I know that Uriah Heep song, it's a good one. I like "Easy Livin'" too. Their "Gypsy" from June 1970 is possibly the earliest heavy metal song after the first Black Sabbath ones.
Van der Graaf Generator were a 70s prog rock band. I wasn't sure but they were English. Somebody once recommended them to me. I found one song which was a bit boring but this is good:

Van Der Graaf Generator sounds like the name of a Dutch band, they make me think of the song Hocus Pocus, by Focus.

Re: Now listening to . . .
That's different! And pretty good. A chart-topping song (from 2002) that I liked for a change:
Some of the lyrics to this song are in Finnish and the others in English, but I think the feeling of the music is strong enough in either case:

The second song sounds like an Irish jig to me, much more powerful, but still folksy.
The video for the first song you posted is unavailable in my country and I am dying to know what it is!

"Sound Of The Underground" by Girls Aloud. It looks like it wasn't released in America so I don't know if there'll be an official video you can see on YouTube but there are a few others.Sary wrote:The video for the first song you posted is unavailable in my country and I am dying to know what it is!

RIP Dusty Hill, 72 seems a little too young to check out . . . I can’t help but wonder, if he took the jab.
ZZ Top was one of the first bands that I ever saw in concert. It was a small venue and really left a lasting impression on me

Re: Now listening to . . .
Yeah, shows in small venues can be some of the best. I once saw Ozzy play in a Manchester club.

Those are both very good songs!
I never listened to the Scorpions much before, they have some really beautiful ballads.
Another song from the same era, by the Buzzcocks. I heard it on the soundtrack of a show I’m watching and it brought back memories, so I googled it and found this on YouTube.
The video is a 1908 French film by Georges Melies, he is playing the magician.
The Spider and the Butterfly.
One more new wave song, a number one hit from 1985, that I think sounds just as good today as it did then.

Re: Now listening to . . .
I've always liked "Born To Touch Your Feelings". I knew there'd be a good melancholy ballad on a Scorpions album whenever I bought one. For about eight months when I was 18/19 I dedicated my music collecting to the Scorpions and Deep Purple back catalogues.
We had a long-running TV music quiz called Never Mind the Buzzcocks

The TFF song is very memorable - the kind of catchy soft rock song that has mass appeal.
Now an anthem to lift the mood again:

Never Mind the Buzzcocks is a very catchy name for a T.V show!
I don’t listen to classical music very often, but I do sometimes enjoy the energy and uplifting feeling that classical music conveys. I heard a much longer version of this song the other night, on the radio.
It is big and bold, a perfect melody to go along with the last dwindling days of summer and a full harvest moon.
Jacques Offenbach - Orpheus in the Underworld.
The title of the song made me remember an oldie from the 1960’s, by the band Orpheus . . . this music takes me back to a much simpler time, sweet and innocent.

Re: Now listening to . . .
I have a similar relationship to classical music; I'd probably like more of it if I knew what to look for. An instrumental on an autumn theme which also has a classical flavour:
And this is what I thought of for 'simpler, sweet and innocent'. It was written for the closing theme to a TV sci-fi puppet show called Fireball XL5 (1962-63) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireball_XL5 :
The full-length version of "Fireball":

Re: Now listening to . . .
Autumn Lords has a spooky feeling to it, complex and moving , I like it.
The opening of Fireball XL5 has left an impression in my psyche. . . I had a very vivid dream about driving one of those flying scooters. It was difficult to get the hang of at first, but by the end of the dream I had mastered it!
Another space themed instrumental from the same era.

Re: Now listening to . . .
I like the harmonic sound of early 60s guitar music such as that and I don't see why any style of music should go out of fashion. Two 80s moody pop songs:

Re: Now listening to . . .
With just a few more days left until Halloween weekend, it is time to post some scary music. . . To get into the spirit
An oldie by Jay Hawkins, with a very creepy video!
A classic Ozzy Osbourne and last, a newer song that sounds a little bit like the Beatles and Black Sabbath to me, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats.
