A recent single from Alice Cooper:

The 73-year-old admitted that he and the band felt like outsiders in the early 1970s. Cooper continued: "We just always felt like we were outsiders. We felt like we were social debris, we were in our own little world. So Social Debris was just the original band writing a song about us, essentially. [MSN.com]

And a new one from another veteran rocker, Suzi Quatro:

It is very cool to see old rockers staying current and producing music, somethings really do get better with age Thumb-Up Suzi reminds me of Ozzy in her video. Alice has honed his image to a T.

I heard this old song the other day and the melody is now stuck in my head.

This video is fairly recent, though some of the members have since past, Danny Hutton is still alive.

A couple more mellow songs to smooth things out a bit.
I’ve been feeling so anxious and depressed lately. I hope that it is just a bad case of seasonal affective disorder and will lessen with the change of season.
It is still cold here.

I'm fairly sure I get a seasonal negative mood effect in Jan, Feb and March. A piece of music (with a few vocals at the end) for this month which is melancholy but nice:

The song April does a very good job of capturing the feeling that this time of year can sometimes bring.  Changing tempo like temperature, one minute melancholy and gloomy,  the next bursting with life.  The beginning of the song sounds a bit like Iron Maiden, Flight of Icarus. I like how it starts out instrumental and the vocals don’t come in until the end.

Yesterday,  I heard this sweet 1963 brother and sister version of the song Deep Purple.
I read a YouTube comment claiming that Ritchie Blackmore named the band after the song. Apparently it was his grandmother’s favorite.

That comment about Deep Purple the band being named after the song appears to be correct:

Two songs on the theme of dreams:

I like the driving rhythm of the Dio song. Although I never heard it before, his voice and style of music are unmistakable.
The Iron Maiden song is a bit disturbing.

April Wine and REO Speedwagon are two underrated bands that I have always liked.  They both have so many great songs.

Listening to their music makes me feel like a teenager again . . . good times!

The 70s and 80s were probably the best decades for both light and heavy rock music, with a unique combination of attitudes, and I don't think that atmosphere will ever return in this digital age. Two Meat Loaf classics:

The 80’s had the best music videos that’s for sure.

Another clip from the 1985 Live Aid concert, Zeppelin and Stairway to Heaven. The song always makes me think of this time of year and school dances. Kind of cheesy but still a classic!

I went to the discos at middle school aged about 11-13 but I wasn't into music then and felt a bit of an outisider. They were okay though. We didn't have any at high school. A rock 'n' roll song by Rainbow (with Dio):

I hadn't seen that Live Aid performance of Stairway before - pretty good. Dio organised a charity song and album for the same cause as Live Aid called Hear 'n Aid:

Dream On was another staple slow dance song they always played at our Junior High dances.
I don’t think I went to any “discos” in high school though, maybe one?
I even skipped the prom, a bit of a misfit I guess.

I know Dream On - it's a strong melancholy ballad. I like Bad Moon Rising and I feel I've it heard on some film soundtrack . . . I checked and it was probably An American Werewolf in London.

A heavy song from 1970. Would you classify this as metal?

The usual music style of The Specials (ska) is pretty much the opposite of heavy metal, but this song is different and I quite like it:

I am no expert on metal music, but yeah l would classify Kingdom Come as heavy metal. Perhaps it is one of the first of its kind?
Listening to the song with AirPods, I can clearly hear the binaural beats . . . it’s relaxing and almost hypnotic. I like the album cover art too, the hull of the ship looks like a mandible and the masts crosses.
Ghost Town is different, the style sounds a little like Bossa Nova to me.

A couple of random songs from B.T.O and AC/DC, bands that I like, but don’t usually listen to.

I think the beginning of Not Fragile sounds heavy, then it turns into southern, psychedelic rock or something.
The AC/DC video is awesome!

I quite like the BTO song. I think I've said before there's probably a fair amount of 1970s rock music that I'd like but which I've never heard. Do you know any Van der Graaf Generator? I can happily listen to AC/DC most of the time but I've never bought any of their albums.

A song from German band Helloween which has been described as 'happy metal':

And one I discovered the other night, this time far from happy but it's enjoyable in its melancholy way:

"I ran away from my home in Coventry when I was 16 . . . made and sold clothes in Amsterdam, picked grapes in France, joined a dance troupe that went to Tokyo then onto Beirut (escaping the start of the civil war by one month!) travelled West Africa, crossed the Sahara, sang with a dreadful singing trio for the U.S. troops in Germany and came home to "settle down". Through all this experience of life and the world I realized that singing always cheered me up. I decided to be a singer. Through strange turns of fate I ended up in a film called 'Breaking Glass'. I also ended up writing all the songs for the movie." — Hazel O'Connor  [Wikipedia]
