Re: Now listening to . . .
A good song, with the added bonus of it being played to scenes from the American SW.

Re: Now listening to . . .
Sary, I see why you put the Chris de Burgh song with "Soldier Of Fortune" (one of Deep Purple's and David Coverdale's best) - it has a similar vibe. Bad Company was the first band I ever saw live when they supported Deep Purple.
Osric Pearl, I like the cello music you posted. I've thought of an instrumental I know which features a violin:
Skyclad from England invented folk metal and became more folky (and less metal) over time.

Re: Now listening to . . .
The song by SYML sounds a little like The Beatles to me, John Lennon in particular
Free as a Bird has a similar video too, except this one is played over scenes of England.

I heard this song twice in the past two days and both times it instantly put me in a better mood. It is an oldie but a goody, classic rock.

Re: Now listening to . . .
I like that revived Beatles song. I'm not sure I gave it proper attention when it first came out. Some say "Helter Skelter" was the first heavy metal song. I disagree, but maybe it was the first heavy rock song:
Someone on Twitter was saying this Black Sabbath song is 'heavy blues' but I think it's closer to being heavy metal:

Another song that some suggest as pre-Sabbath heavy metal. But I think it obviously has a groovy rock beat:

Re: Now listening to . . .
I think of Born To Be Wild as the first heavy metal song, probably because Steppenwolf coined the name. I watched Easy Rider for the first time awhile back, I thought it was okay.
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida too, is another song that I think of as early heavy metal. I posted that song already, so one more by Iron Butterfly.
Bad ass heavy metal hippies lol!
I love most all of the music from that era.

Re: Now listening to . . .
The IB song must be region-restricted Sary. Can you find an alternative?

Re: Now listening to . . .
The song by Iron Butterfly that won’t post is Easy Rider.
Iron Butterfly Theme, an instrumental song from their debut 1968 album Heavy:
I can hear some elements of heavy metal music underneath the layers of psychedelic sounds.

Re: Now listening to . . .
I like both of those IB tracks. Yeah the instrumental is metaloid, and much psychedellic rock apparently was. It especially had a doomy element which you can hear in this song by Reverend Bizarre
This came up as a recommendation on YouTube. I nearly didn't bother playing it because there are many similar sounding female-fronted operatic style metal bands now, but it's pretty good:

Re: Now listening to . . .
I know and like the Led Zep song and the PH song is quite good too. Dio seems to have been inspired for the title of his song here from the 60s Donovan song but it's nothing like it:

Re: Now listening to . . .
Awww . . . that is such a touching performance of the song Sunshine Superman!
When you listen to a song played acoustically, without all of the extra fluff, you can really appreciate it for what it is. In this case as Donovan points out, a love song and a classic one at that.
That was clever of you to pair it with Sunset Superman.
A couple of Blues Rock songs from the band Wishbone Ash:
They are one of those bands that I vaguely remember from the past and only recently have begun to listen to.

Re: Now listening to . . .
The band name Wishbone Ash is familiar and the album cover of Argus has always intrigued me but I'm not sure I've actually heard them before. I like the guitar solos.
A black metal song but with vocals in a goth rock style:
As I was looking for another song to post while listening to the above, I saw "Dedication" by Doro just as I heard the word 'dedication' sung in the Satyricon song, so that coincidence decides it!
Although not intended as a concept album, [Argus] is medieval-themed to a degree, particularly on the second side. The album features a blend of progressive rock, folk, and hard rock and is considered a landmark album in the progression of twin-lead guitar harmonisation, later adopted by bands such as Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden. The sound engineer on Argus was Martin Birch who also worked with Deep Purple, later with Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and other hard rock bands. - Wikipedia
