Career change
Hello, I am in need of some advise. I would like Sary, in particular, to consider it since you have experience in the matter. I have a college degree that I've never been able to "use," either due to location or my own lack of skills in the job hunting department. I've been working somewhere in either customer service or retail, and I'm getting tired of it.
What about being a CNA? In my area, it's possible to work the weekends -twelve hour workdays- and have the weeks off, which would free me for homes schooling. Do you think this is viable? I am good with people on an individual basis, and I'm good worker. My concern is with the disgust factor. I am easily disgusted by smells, sights, and sounds. Is this something that can be overcome through practice?

Re: Career change
I feel flattered you are asking me for advice I have worked in healthcare for many years, decades really. I never planned to do it, it kinda just happened. In the beginning of my career I worked night/swing shift because it enabled me to be home during the day which really sucked because I am a morning person. As a mother you sacrifice and try to do what is best for your children and family. It was a no brainer for me, it was the right path to take. Once the kids were grown I took a day job.
Working during Covid was a horrible time professionally and I think I had a mini nervous breakdown during the worst of it . . . but I got through it. Yes working in healthcare can be demanding, hard work and very difficult emotionally seeing disease and death up close but at the same time it is very gratifying.
I’ve never worked as a CNA, only diagnostic testing but my advice to you would be to give it a go. If the disgust factor is too much for you to overcome I’m pretty sure you will figure it out quickly and for nothing else, it will be a good learning experience and maybe even a stepping stone to a different higher paying branch in healthcare.
Best of luck OP, you will never know unless you try!

Thanks. I have been feeling stuck lately. I really just need to find a way to provide a better path for the kids.Sary wrote:I feel flattered you are asking me for advice I have worked in healthcare for many years, decades really.
