Re: Now listening to . . .
The first Skid Row album was quite glam, but it had some songs which have become classics like Youth Gone Wild and this:
And their second album was considerably heavier!

Between the velvet lies, there's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies, life's a never ending wheel - R.J.Dio
Re: Now listening to . . .
I like Skid Row, even their heavier metal music. Sebastian has a good voice.
This song by Type O negative is full of emotion. The video is very beautiful ,gothic metal.
Funny, I reading Peter Steele's biography......another metal head raised Catholic .
I believe he died Catholic as well, and way too young.

^ I don't listen to much classical music, maybe if I did I would appreciate it more. The Chopin song sounds pretty, very relaxing.
I like this video that goes along with the song Cracker box Palace .... George was such a goof ball!

Re: Now listening to . . .
What year was that? The video looks quite Monty Python influenced. The only George Harrison solo song I knew was this:
Between the velvet lies, there's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies, life's a never ending wheel - R.J.Dio
Re: Now listening to . . .
I honestly did not know that there was a George Harrison/ Monty Python connection. I was looking around for a song to post and Crackerbox Palace brought back childhood memories, 1976. Watching the video now, it is evident that Python had a hand in making it. It is charming , funny and very odd! The old granny in the beginning cracks me up
Got My Mind Set On You is also a good one, a very catchy tune. It hit number #1 here in the USA.
Mmmmmm....I think that you maybe pulling my leg NK, about that song being the only solo from George that you know?
I have to post one more, my favorite and another #1 hit . This one from 1973.

Re: Now listening to . . .
It's true - GMMSOY is the only one I knew It is a good song. According to Wikipedia it got to no. 2 in the UK, 1 in Ireland and Australia and did well in NW Europe. The rhythm of it reminds of this Meat Loaf song:
ML's Bat Out Of Hell was the song that first got me into heavy music.

Re: Now listening to . . .
I have the Bat out of Hell CD, somewhere around here. I have not listened to it in a long time, I guess that Paradise by the Dashboard Light is the most memorable of his songs, for me.
I'll Kill You if You Don't Come back .....haha such a compelling title for a song!
Meatloaf has a very powerful voice, he has a unique style.
I will try and think of something comparable

Re: Now listening to . . .
Going back to Classical, I too wish I knew more of it. But from what I do know, I think I prefer the earlier Baroque style, like this:
Between the velvet lies, there's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies, life's a never ending wheel - R.J.Dio
Re: Now listening to . . .
Queen reminds me of Meatloaf. Both bands have a rock opera sound, and both have very charismatic lead singers.

Re: Now listening to . . .
Queen and Meat Loaf do seem to go together pretty well. My friend's cousin, Gaz, used to play them both in his car. I prefer early Queen, which could be quite heavy.
I wonder if that inspired this song by Swedish guitair maestro Yngwie Malmsteen:

Re: Now listening to . . .
Funny, today my patient came in wearing a Queen tee shirt. She was a young women, in her twenties.
I told her how just yesterday, I was listening to them, remembering their music. That I was surprised but, happy to see that young people still appreciate old classic rock.
She went on to tell me that she is a huge fan and that a movie about them will be coming out soon.
I will have to google it, she could not recall the name of the actor that will play Freddie Mercury.
Anyway, staying with the liar theme...this song has been in my head all day.
Three Dog night had a big hit with it. The two versions sound very similar.

That just about gives me an excuse to post a Dio song

My Favourite Megadeth song given a bit of a different treatment:

I'm feeling the spirit of Texas pride today and listening to the wailing blues of one of Austins most beloved sons.
