This is possibly the most famous British commercial, for ready-made mashed potato:

This is a great topic!
Funny to watch old TV commercials so many years later.....my,my how times have changed!
It seems like the old advertising was a bit more risqué?

The Joan Collins advert caught my attention.
I just started watching the new season of American Horror Story Apocalypse and she is phenomenal in it. A perfect role for her, glamorous as ever, at 80 + years old.

She is the grande dame of bitchy!

And then a cute animal commercial Smile 1

Lol chow chow chow!

There was a series of Cinzano adverts with the same couple, Collins and Rossiter. I think they are genuinely funny!

Someone in the paper was saying that this next one would be seen as a case of stalking by the current #MeToo movement:

This looks American but was probably done that way deliberately for the image:

You never see advertising for cigarettes or alcohol any more, the commercials use to be on all the time. Very serious!

Irish spring, so manly lol.

That last one was a bit surreal.

"Tobacco advertising was banned on UK television in 1965, with the exception of rolling tobacco and cigars, which were banned in 1991."

This next one is famous . . . Wikipedia: "The commercial, directed by Roger Lyons, was selected for, and came fourth in, The 100 Greatest TV Ads in 2000."

And a parody of it, advertising beer:

I never saw any of the commercials that you are posting and
You probably haven't a clue on the ones that I am posting.
Funny how the adverts have similarities from the same era but a different twist of  country.

This one was famous here

This one looks like my cat LOL 1

I was cleaning out some closets today and found my Chrissy doll. I googled the commercial and found this pale a hope it is a fake.

That last one is really wierd, but it looks authentic. In America do you always say TV commericals rather than 'adverts'?

I think this is the classiest one I've seen:

Joanna Lumley, a famous British TV actress:

A cider advert then another for Carling beer:

Yes, commercials are seen on television and also heard on radio.  They interrupt programming.  For some reason the volume always  increases when they are playing.

Advertising is more broad range, encompassing different forms of product promotion like newspaper fliers, magazines ,Bill boards and commercials too, would fall under that category.

I like the King Arthur advert best it is so theatrical!
No doubt that sex sells, just about anything.

A very controversial 1980 Calvin Klein commercial.  Brooke Shields was only 15 years old at the time.

And a hippie dippy, animated ,1970s shampoo commercial.

^ That's a good bit of acting from the young Brooke Shields. A Wrangler jeans advert, very 80s:

These two feature Anthony Stewart Head who played Giles in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series:

This wouldn't get past the politically correct censors now:

I remember that couple in the Nescafé commercials, that is one British advert that made it over here to American TV. It is like a mini soap opera romance.

These next two make me think of the gene editing post LOL 1

The Burger King jingle is catchy...we would sing it, when we were kids.

I don't think that the marmalade advert is all that offensive, but then again,I am not black. People are easily offended these days.
The character reminds me of the little black boy in the Sambo fable
There use to be Sambo restaurants, even in New England, not anymore.

Yeah, the Burger King jingle is very catchy. We've had similar margarine ads with lines like "I cant believe it's not butter!". Was that Burt Reynolds in the aftershave one? I've also got an ad with Kim Basinger then another for Peugot:

A cutesy one:
