The question "Do you believe in God?" does not have just two or three simple possible answers because there are different ideas of God and different strengths of belief. Also, belief in souls is, logically, a separate matter - it doesn't necessarily follow that there being a God would mean that there are souls and vice versa. My summary of the key positions:
Complex Theism
Believing in a creator God who may intervene in human affairs and who makes moral judgements.
Basic Theism
Believing in a God who is somehow crucial to existence.
Equivocal Theism
Feeling about half certain that there is some kind of God.
Atheism
Feeling certain that there is no God.

Soulism
Believing that humans have non-physical souls or minds which survive bodily death.
Equivocal Soulism
Feeling about half certain that humans have non-physical souls or minds which survive bodily death.
Physicalism
Believing that humans are completely physical and that consciousness is an illusion.
Each type of theism may be coupled with each type of soulism, making 4 x 3 = twelve possible combinations.

The majority Catholic countries have the higher Church attendance, with the exceptions of France and Belgium:
Is Catholicism more resistant to decline because it's more authoritarian or is just the less wealthy countries that have kept a stronger religious tradition?

The graph appears to show that wealthier countries have somehow replaced religion for the pursuit and worship of money and material things. That is sad.
If you think about it, not believing in God also seems to correlate with the decline of absolute truth in modern society.
Now a days people are most focused on ones self and have lost faith in a higher power.
It lends a feeling of hopelessness. It is no wonder that we are seeing so much depression and anxiety, suicide, abortion and violent crime.
Maybe we are devolving somehow back into some sort of dark age?
As far Catholicism being more resistant to decline, I think it is because She is the Holy Mother Church. The first, from which all other Protestant religions sprang. A beautiful religion that is mystical, nurturing and steeped in tradition ....
Something that gives hope and stability, in this ever changing world.

It seems that high wealth and the convenience that goes with it weaken social bonds and then that reduces church attendances. Austria bucks the trend though for some reason.
But this data (from Eurobarometer 2010 & Pew Research Center 2017 for the USA) is more detailed and gives a more complex picture. The full headings for the 2nd and 3rd columns are: "You believe there is a God" & "You believe there is some sort of spirit or life force"

I think it is hard to compare the whole USA to western European countries.
We have pockets of the country, that have always been strong believers in God, with the church as a central part of life. In the Southeast there is the Bible Belt and rural areas throughout the Midwest have always held strong Christian beliefs.
I think that it is the younger people that are not going to church and have replaced religion with spirituality. Modern society holds so many distractions. And of course wealth is one them.
It is sad to see the French people at the bottom of the list, when it comes to belief in God. There are so many beautiful churches and cathedrals in France, I wonder what will become of them?
