I agree. I probably would have gotten along there very well without a problem. No one would have looked twice at the dago walking down the street. Nowadays, I think someone like me would create more mixed feelings because the locals already feel cultural pressure and they wouldn't be sure what side I'm on. I'm seeing that play out here in the US.

here is another one that contrasts 1927 and 2013. 4:30 is awful, just awful.
