What is your Celtic Astrology sign

What is your Celtic Astrology sign Empty What is your Celtic Astrology sign

Post de Burgh Wed 30 Aug - 23:38

Maybe I'm biased because I have an avid interest in ancient Celtic culture, society, and ways of life, etc.

Nevertheless, I thought it would be interesting to see what other people's signs were :-P :

Ivy (Sept. 30 - Oct. 27)
Represented by the Celtic tree sign Ivy, you are famous for your sheer determination and willpower. Your ogham is Gort, which symbolizes progress and aids in overcoming obstacles that stand in your path. The boar, the butterfly and the goose are the animals associated with the Ivy sign. Your color is blue and your gemstone is opal.

'The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piercing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. Under the Holly tree sign, you are celebrated for your physical strength and star power. Your ogham is Tinne, which represents additional strength and brilliance. The Celts associated the cat and the unicorn with the Holly tree. Your color is silver and your gemstone is carnelian.

I'm not specially strong though, but quite resilient.

I'm originally from a zone of spain where celts, ibers and vascones converged, that is, supposing that all my ancestors were from that zone which is a lot to suppose, but many of them did I guess.

And we're now part of romance people....  Shrug  and luck we're not muslims nowadays.

If astrology play a role in destiny of peoples, celts sure had a very bad star.

Under the sign of the Reed you are celebrated for your open-minded attitude and worldly sophistication. Your ogham is Ngetal, which symbolizes unity and is especially beneficial when you venture out of your comfort zone. The animals associated with the Reed sign are the hound and the owl. Your color is orange and your gemstone is jasper.
That description doesn't particularly fit me.

I'm surprised Iberians and French do not have more of a Celtic identity since they are mostly descended from Celts and not Romans. Romans, Franks and Norsemen were all just ruling elites. What about the Basque people? And has anyone tried to revive the Celtiberian language?

Too right. The stories of Vercingetorix and Boudicca were damn tragic and they are as frustrating as they are interesting to read about.

AFAIK, no. They only know celtic languages of Iberia from an archeological POV., not enough to rebuild a practicable language.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtiberian_language
Other aspects of celtic iberia like archeology, toponymy, onomatology, settlements, history etc, are better known and there're some websites about it. But the interest about celtic heritage of Spain is mainly academic and 'intellectual', not popular.

The assimilation process of native iberians into latin language and culture was long and slow. Romans built cities where roman colonizers lived,  and those cities attracted natives to trade and work with/for romans, that was the main roman strategy to 'convert' natives in their empire. Even in England were a couple of proto romance english languages but the invasion of anglo-saxons aborted the process.
The visigoths that invaded Spain were very romanized and they were christians and spoke latin, besides their own germanic language.

Basques managed to preserve their language, but they lost great areas where basque language was spoken originally, it reached even Andorra and aragones and catalan pyrinees, where many basque originated toponyms exist today.

Recently I saw a documentary about Celts and the fight between Vercingetorix and Julius Cesar... I didn't know much about it and I was really impressed by the epic and significance of that battle.
