I would say this quote is very true :p :
"[...] for doubt and secrecy are the lure of lures, and no new horror can be more terrible than the daily torture of the commonplace.
H.P. Lovecraft
"Ex Oblivione"

I would say my all time favorite quote by Lovecraft is this! :p :

'The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piercing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. [...]'

There's a quotes thread in Miscellaneous Topics but we can use this one for specifically political quotes.
EDIT: I've now merged the two threads.

“People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.”

There are many by Winston Churchill.

"In politics when you are in doubt what to do, do nothing … when you are in doubt what to say, say what you really think."

“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”

“Never give in–never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

“Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.”

Yes,Churchill definitely had a way with words. I especially like this quote-

“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.”

There is speculation about who actually thought up this strong quote ,no doubt that Churchill said it at some point.  He is the one that usually gets credit for it.
https://quoteinvestigator.com/2014/02/24/heart-head/

It is rings true for me,I was much more liberal,in my youth.

Wisdom comes with age.

Lol ....another strong quote!

Actually the quote goes,
"With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone"
Oscar Wilde. https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/329316-with-age-comes-wisdom-but-sometimes-age-comes-alone. Ironically he died relatively young.
