A flag to represent European people?
I wonder if there is a flag who represent european people. There is the flag of european union, but it represent an organisation which who we can disagree. Me for exemple I wont use the european union flag, even if I enjoy other europeans peoples.
I think it would be great if european people have a flag who symbolyze there friendships/links without any political meanings.
what is your opinion?

A European cultural flag? How about this one?
I also feel this version of the Rohan flag from Lord of the Rings would be a good one for Europe:

Why not the first you made.
For the rohan flag, I don't think it has really a signification.

No, there's nothing obviously European about it but I can think of meanings to give it to make it fit.Jehan I wrote:Why not the first you made.

Anyway, I think it is worth saying that a person can be against the European Union but still identify as European and have concern about the European nations other than his own and support lots of cooperation between them.

Re: A flag to represent European people?
I really like that Rohan flag, with the white horse bit is very striking against the green background
Horses are noble animals, one of the top 10,if you had to choose the best. Right up there with cows, dogs, elephants
The flag doesn't really scream European though ,maybe more American wild and free?
It is a good flag.

Yeah, you've got a point. Maybe it could be a European American flag. Stormfront is dead. Long live Horsefront!Sary wrote:I really like that Rohan flag, with the white horse bit is very striking against the green background

Yes,Horsefront sounds much more civilized.
You could put a fancy saddle on him, to make the flag look more British.

Re: A flag to represent European people?
Perhaps a crusader/crusades flag; especially since it united both Western and Eastern Europe at a time under Christendom faith as its own pan-European impetus.
'The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piercing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. Re: A flag to represent European people?
I don't think that the crusade flag is relevant anymore.
It will be 500 years this October 31, that martin Luther Protestant devil ,broke up the church. Things seem to have gone down hill quickly, over the last 50 years or so. Vatican 2 was the start of that.
If the original church stuck together it would be a different story. Now there are thousands of different branches created by men,,each with different beliefs.
Now a days most people are atheist or agnostic. It is a secular world, maybe for the best
Haha even our pope is Protestant!
That poor horse!

Re: A flag to represent European people?
I should not talk bad about the pope,I just wish that we had a European pope. This one, pope Francis is too progressive ,for me.
I see that the American horse looks better dressed.

Re: A flag to represent European people?
Back to Paganism!!
Paganism is the real european spirituality, and also plenty of cool and nice symbols!!
I don't like christianity and other similar religions, they are ugly and gloomy fairy tales in my opinion.
I prefer the concept of 'spirituality', and deities and supernatural entities based on nature.

I appreciate what Impasible says about religion, but Christianity was a major definer of Europe and European, so I think a European flag should include a cross of some size, but not a cruciform one which would be too overtly Christian.

Re: A flag to represent European people?
The european flag should have some pagan symbol, because paganism was the european spirituality during a very long time and surely it was original and purely european.
But paganism is very diverse with many different forms of it. (I'm not an expert about the matter though).
Any common symbol among the different forms of paganism?. I only can think about swastika, that seems a symbol present not only in ancient european paganism but all over eurasia. But it would be a problem because the stigma attached to that symbol nowadays.
It also should have some symbol related to ancient Greece and Rome, fucking imperialist and cultural genociders the latter, but the classic world mould Europe more than any other force and its influence is very visible even at present days.
A classic corintian or ionic column would be fine and defining of that element.
And of course (gloomy ) christianity has shaped Europe in the last centuries, so a cross somewhere would be fair.
So it would be a flag with a swastika (or other similar pagan symbol), a corintian column and a cross.
Any more symbols are needed or you would like to add?
About the colors I don't have much idea of what different colours mean...
