Chinese village reclaimed by nature Empty Chinese village reclaimed by nature

Post Neon Knight Tue 12 Jun - 22:49

There are few good photos in the article, I'll just post a couple. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-44412576 Quoting:

Shengshan island in China's eastern Zhejiang province is home to Houtouwan, an abandoned village that has become overgrown with thick green vegetation . . . The tiny island was once home to a bustling fishing village with more than 2,000 fishermen and their families housed in more than 500 homes. The remoteness of the island meant that the standards of education and quality of food deliveries suffered.

Residents started to leave the island in the early 1990s in search of a better life. By 1994 almost everyone had left, and only a few villagers remain today. Over the years lush vegetation reclaimed the buildings, making the isolated island a popular tourist destination.

Ghost towns are interesting. The ones in deserts tend to crumble over time, but the ones in more lush areas always end up swallowed up by the surrounding forest. It makes you wonder what would happen if we were to all disappear one day.

I like how Mother Nature take back her rights. Pictures are so beautiful and by some ways mystical, ethereally out of our world.

I don't think that picture looks all that beautiful.

It looks kinda sad, overgrown, abandoned, dangerous.

I think it looks tranquil but also full of potential adventure. There could be monsters and treasure in those overgrown buildings!

It looks like there would be  a lot of mosquitos and snakes.
There could be wild monkeys too!

No such thing as monsters Neutral
