Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal Empty Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal

Post Jehan I Thu 10 Aug - 17:06

I open a thread to inform people about this case of mass sexual aggression by pakistani on whites british girls.

The Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal has been described as the "biggest child protection scandal in UK history".[12] From the late 1980s until the 2010s, organised child sexual abuse continued almost unchallenged[citation needed] in the northern English town of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. It was first documented in the early 1990s, when care-home managers investigated reports that children in their care were being picked up by taxi drivers.[13] From at least 2001, multiple reports passed names of alleged perpetrators, several from one family, to the police and Rotherham Council. The first group conviction took place in 2010, when five British-Pakistani men were convicted of sexual offences against girls aged 12–16, but the ringleaders remained at large.[14] Other major convictions regarding child sexual exploitation included one in 2007 of a lone male offender who "abused over 80 boys and young men".[15] From January 2011 Andrew Norfolk of The Times pressed the issue, reporting in 2012 that the abuse in the town was widespread, and that the police and council had known about it for over ten years.[a]

The Times articles, along with the trial in 2012 of the Rochdale child sex abuse ring, prompted the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee to hold hearings.[18] Following this and further articles from Norfolk, Rotherham Council commissioned an independent inquiry led by Professor Alexis Jay. In August 2014 the Jay report concluded that at least 1,400 children, most of them white girls aged 11–15, had been sexually abused in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013 by predominantly British-Pakistani men.[19][b] A "common thread" was that taxi drivers had been picking the children up for sex from care homes and schools.[c] The abuse included gang rape, forcing children to watch rape, dousing them with petrol and threatening to set them on fire, threatening to rape their mothers and younger sisters, and trafficking them to other towns.[23] There were pregnancies—at least one at age 12—terminations, miscarriages, babies raised by their mothers, and babies removed, causing further trauma.[24][25][26][27]

The failure to address the abuse was attributed to a combination of factors revolving around race, class and gender—contemptuous and sexist attitudes toward the mostly working-class victims; fear that the perpetrators' ethnicity would trigger allegations of racism and damage community relations; the Labour council's reluctance to challenge a Labour-voting ethnic minority; lack of a child-centred focus; a desire to protect the town's reputation; and lack of training and resources.[28][29][30]

Rotherham Council's chief executive, its director of children's services, and the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire Police all resigned.[31] The Independent Police Complaints Commission and the National Crime Agency both opened inquiries, the latter expected to last eight years.[32][33] The government appointed Louise Casey to conduct an inspection of Rotherham Council.[34] Published in January 2015, the Casey report concluded that the council had a bullying, sexist culture of covering up information and silencing whistleblowers, and was "not fit for purpose".[35] In February 2015 the government replaced the council's elected officers with a team of five commissioners.[36] As a result of new police inquiries, 19 men and two women were convicted in 2016 and 2017 of sexual offences in the town dating back to the late 1980s; one of the ringleaders was jailed for 35 years

https://fullfact.org/news/are-asians-disproportionately-represented-prosecutions-sex-offences/

"20 per cent of the perpetrators of grooming were identified as people of Asian origin. 38 per cent were white. And 32 per cent the ethnicity was unknown"

Sexual offences in general:

Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal Sex_offences_by_ethnicity

Given that (in 2011), the ethnic breakdown of the UK population was:

Black 3%
Asian 7%
Mixed 2%
White 87%

we can say that Asians are a little over-represented in sexual offences (but far less than blacks are).
