Two familiar tunes from American punk band The Dickies:
Between the velvet lies, there's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies, life's a never ending wheel - R.J.Dio
Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
It is a hard pick between these two versions of The House of the Rising Sun.
They are both good in their own special way.

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
House O.T.R.Sun is such a good song that it would be hard for any competent band to do a bad version of it. I'll probably always slightly prefer the Animals' recording but Arthur Brown there does it justice in his own crazy way. I came across this by accident the other night when looking on YouTube:

An instrumental version of Ghost Riders by punk band the Toy Dolls:

The vision never dies, life's a never ending wheel - R.J.Dio
Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
I like the energy of the Toy Dolls. Their punk rock version of Ghost Riders in the Sky is different but somehow works.
Debby Harry does a very good job too but, I will have to pick this version as my favorite, Wille Nelson and Johnny Cash.
Staying true to the country western feeling of the song.

I am not sure if this old Rock a billy version is the original of Train Kept A Rollin. I always thought of it as an Aerosmith song.

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
That's a strong rocker. I prefer the original.
Two covers (of Dio and Deep Purple) from a surprising album: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_a_Metal_Mood:_No_More_Mr._Nice_Guy

The Pat Boone videos have since disappeared
I remember when No More Mr. Nice Guy was released and how people laughed at Pat, like the album was some kind of joke. Listening to the music now, I think it has stood the test of time. He has a very good voice . . . Lol Mr. Sexy with the leather vest!
Heart of Glass was Blondie’s first number 1 song. The disco vibe was a little different than her previous songs, but suits her perfectly. The Miley version is growing on me.

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
I like the Twisted Sister version. I didn't know they'd done that song but it's typical of their sense of humour
"The Gun were a late 1960s British rock guitar trio who had a single British Top Ten hit, 'Race With The Devil' and recorded two albums before disbanding." [Wikipedia]
"Girlschool are a British rock band that formed in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene in 1978. Frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead, they are the longest running all-female rock band, still active after more than forty years. Formed from a school band called Painted Lady, Girlschool enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of 'punk-tinged metal' and a few singles, but lost their momentum in the following years." Now it's a Twisted Sister song being covered - by Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir:

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
"Shot in the Dark" was originally composed sometime around 1983 by members of Wildlife, a band featuring Steve Overland, Chris Overland, Simon Kirke of Bad Company, keyboardist Mark Booty, and future Ozzy Osbourne bassist Phil Soussan. Wildlife recorded a demo version of the song that was never officially released. When Soussan joined Ozzy Osbourne's band a couple of years later, he and Osbourne then reworked the song for Ozzy Osbourne's recording and release in early 1986. As a result, there has been much debate over the proper authorship of the song. [Wikipedia]

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
I will have to go with Ozzy
There are quite a few cover versions of Spirits, I Got a Line on You.
This Alice Cooper one is the best, the 1980s videos are hilarious!

Re: Song Cover-Versions & Originals
I didn't know that song (or band). It has some nice guitar soloing and reminds me of Kiss. Neither did I know of the Alice Cooper cover; my research reveals that it was a single from the soundtrack to the film Iron Eagle ll. It would have been about a year before Alice's big hit with "Poison" and the Trash album.
You'll know "Helter Skelter" by the Beatles. This version is by the Swiss dark mystical industrial band Samael:
