How did the Hungarian language survive?

Looking at the map of Europe, Hungary is surrounded by populations speaking major languges - Slavic (especially), Latin and Germanic. So why did one of those languages not spread to Hungary?

I don't want to write bullshit. Smile 1 We are proud of our unique and hard language, that’s why we were able to preserve it. There are many Hungarian word with Slavic origin or Latin, German, Turk.

During Habsburg rule writing in Hungarian was a form of protest.

There are other unique languages, too. E. g. Albanians are speaking their strange language.

In the Habsburg Empire from 1784 to 1790 German was the official language, and after the failed revolution in 1848 to 1867, too. In 1867 the Austro-Hungarian Compromise established a dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary. Hungarian’s situation became better, but other minorities were unlucky, they were magyarized.

Was there any event early in history (ancient or medieval) that was important for the preservation of the Hungarian language? A great battle perhaps?

We had many battles, but not because of our language. Wink 1  Language reform was very important in the 18th century, because we could not write an assey in Hungarian.
