A Mermaid - J.W. Waterhouse
Waterhouse again, The Lady of Shalott:
"The Lady of Shalott is one of John William Waterhouse's most famous works, an 1888 oil-on-canvas painting of a scene from Tennyson's poem in which the poet describes the plight of a young woman, loosely based on the figure of Elaine of Astolat from medieval Arthurian legend, who yearned with an unrequited love for the knight Sir Lancelot, isolated under an undisclosed curse in a tower near King Arthur's Camelot. Waterhouse painted three different versions of this character, in 1888,1894 and 1915." - Wikipedia

That's such a gross and realistic mermaid. I never understood what the fuss was about them.

I know what you mean. The idea of human combined with animal is basically grotesque. But somewhow, in the case of mermaids and maybe centaurs, it has become romanticised. Since it's your thread, I won't post any more mermaids

Found a modern, early 20th century artist Jack Vettriano. A scott with an Italian name. He had a thing for sexy brunettes. I'm not complaining.
