Sir James Dyson "Make it easier to hire fire people with brexit" Empty Sir James Dyson "Make it easier to hire fire people with brexit"

Post Aëlwenn Mon 13 Nov - 17:31

Shameless vacuum cleaner tycoon Sir James Dyson has called for the government to make it easier to fire people after Brexit , and for corporation tax to be scrapped.

And the billionaire inventor said it is time for Britain to walk away from Brexit talks, because Europe is being “incredibly unreasonable.”

Asked how manufacturing in Britain can be revitalised after Brexit, Sir James blamed, in part, Britain’s “very difficult” employment laws.

He told the BBC’s Andrew Marr: “This is controversial, but since I don’t know what orders I’m going to get next month or next year, and the manufacturing industry is very volatile, not being able to flex your workforce is another reason why you wouldn’t start or expand a manufacturing business.”

He added that it should be “easier to hire and fire” people.

Sir James also called for corporation tax should be “eliminated”.

He said: “A tax on profits is the wrong way to tax people. Corporation tax is a very odd thing because there’s ways to get around paying it.

“You shouldn’t really be taxing people’s profits, you should allow profits to be reinvested. And also, if you remove corporation tax you encourage a lot of other industry to come to Britain.”......

Dyson has been in the newspapers quite a lot supporting Brexit. I think he's right that the UK economy will do okay outside the EU. He's been criticised in the past for moving production to Malaysia, but I have thought that corporation tax seems pointless.
