Identitarian Issues & Voting Behaviour

Post Neon Knight on Wed 5 Jul - 21:49

The idea for this thread comes from something Impasible wrote here:

Yes, there are reasonable reasons which try to explain the behaviour of elites and politicians regarding massive immigration and multiculturalism, the guilt and the influence of cultural-marxism in all spheres of society, but how do you explain the behaviour of general people, the people who supports those politicians in power no matter what they do?"

A simple answer that springs to mind is that, although most people could be described as cultural nationalists, and quite a percentage as ethno-nationalists, they generally prioritise their finances above everything else. Combine that with the inflexible sytems of representative democracy and we get the typical outcome of the 'middle ground' parties being elected - parties who make small changes to economic policy and are afraid of going against the liberal media who they depend upon.

We can go deeper into this and there are other reasons, but I'll leave it there for now.

Mainstream parties depend upon liberal/mainstream media, yes, but what they really need are their voters, and up to what point are their voters influenced by liberal/mainstream media?

Judging by surveys regarding identitarian/immigration issues I think the media is much, much more 'progressive' and cosmopolitan than the general public who still value in great messure the identity and racial make up of their countries. So at least conservative parties could put some emphasis in restraining immgration and preservation of national identities and they wouldn't lose many votes, au contraire probably.

So why they don't make proposals in that sense?, or maybe they do?. For example in past french election campaing others besides FN (Fillon I think) talked about restraining immigration to 'a minimum' and to not allow radical islam to impose their 'way of living' anywhere in France, more or less.

Maybe if Fillon had passed the first round instead of FN he could have won to Macron who received many votes, until a 40% if I remember well, of people who voted MAcron only to stop Le Pen from being the next president.

And remember Merkel saying that 'multicultural society doesn't work'... a mortal sin for liberal media, but nothing happened to her popularity/acceptance.

The policy of Theresa May's Conservative party is to reduce net migration (immigration minus emigration) to "the tens of thousands" which is not very ambitious but is supposed to sound quite tough. If she said the goal was zero net migration (x in, x out, as UKIP do) she would get some criticism for being unrealistic and extreme, but I don't think she would lose votes, on balance. I suppose she thinks it is a risk not worth taking. But if she dared to suggest that white immigrants be favoured or Muslims be restricted, most of the media would crucify her.

EDIT: The Cons. say they will reduce net migration to the tens of thousands, not hundreds of thousands as I originally stated.

yeah, sure.

But do you think her voters would crucify her too?.  I think she would get more voters, at least of ethnic british ones.

As I said before mass media is much more progressive, cosmopolitan, anti-racist and etc than the general public, the general public is still quite attached to ethnicity.

I think a somewhat anti-Muslim announcement (a la Trump) would do the Conservative Party no harm. But maybe they are afraid of inflaming Islamic resentment and being blamed for any violent reaction. A pro-white statement? I don't know. It would cause a political sensation. The Cons might split or there would be expulsions at least. Fireworks. But I think that is what is needed - for a respected politician to lay it on the line and make the issue debatable.
